My Words to Live By

Category: Senior Living

Author: Johnathan Gallo, Executive Director

Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word that guides my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at The Gardens at Arkanshire Senior Living in Springdale, Arkansas, the beginning of a new year offers the perfect opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for challenges and opportunities. My chosen word acts as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed at how much my Word of the Year has influenced my journey.

2024: A Year of Resilience

The Word of the Year for 2024 was resilience. This word reflected the adaptability and strength required during our transition to the Arrow family. Resilience guided me as I embraced change, both personally and professionally. Navigating these shifts taught me the value of adaptability and persistence in overcoming challenges.

On a personal level, resilience helped me manage the transition of welcoming a third child into my family. Professionally, it brought our department heads closer together, significantly improving communication among our leadership team. This focus on resilience fostered unity, strengthened relationships, and built a stronger community.

The lessons learned from resilience will continue to shape my goals for 2025. Our team has grown stronger through these challenges, and I look forward to seeing that growth continue into the next year.

2025: Adding Compassion

For 2025, my Word of the Year is compassion. Building on the strength developed through resilience, I am adding a focus on understanding and empathy. Compassion will guide me in creating deeper connections, enhancing personal well-being, and making a positive impact on those around me.

With compassion as my focus, I aim to actively listen and be mindful of the needs of others. This approach will strengthen relationships, improve teamwork, and foster a more supportive environment within our community.

As 2025 approaches, I reflect on the lessons of 2024 and embrace the opportunities ahead. Choosing a Word of the Year is not about having all the answers—it’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
