Living Our Word in 2025

Category: Senior Living

Author: Johnathan Gallo, Executive Director

Choosing a “Word of the Year” is more than a fun tradition. It is a powerful tool for focus and growth at The Gardens at Arkanshire Senior Living. A single word can guide decisions, inspire action, and unite teams around a shared purpose. Reflecting on the chosen word helps highlight its impact on culture, connection, and meaningful experiences for both residents and team members. This end-of-year review also allows time to celebrate successes, learn from challenges, and prepare for the year ahead.

Excellence in Action

Our community chose excellence as the 2025 Word of the Year, with a strong focus on elevating culinary and housekeeping services. The Plant Operations Director promoted one of our Housekeepers to Head Housekeeper, strengthening quality assurance through routine apartment spot checks. The Culinary Director led meaningful improvements to restaurant service, enhancing meal presentation and improving delivery times. The Resident Services Director introduced dedicated errand days for residents and partnered with Culinary to launch a monthly Chef’s Corner. This new forum gave residents a consistent opportunity to share feedback on meals and service.

Strength Through Teamwork

The department head team’s commitment to excellence led to historic lows in staff turnover. Collaboration across departments helped streamline programs and events while improving efficiency. Communication with residents also improved through consistent updates, including a weekly newsletter from the Executive Director. In addition, the completion of a major common-area renovation enhanced daily life and created more inviting shared spaces for residents.

Carrying Excellence Forward

Our community is well positioned to continue delivering exceptional service. This success is made possible by a cohesive department head team working together toward shared goals. The year reinforced an important lesson: when teams are united, service thrives and residents benefit. As we reflect on the impact of our Word of the Year at The Gardens at Arkanshire Senior Living, it is clear that excellence has guided our priorities and strengthened our community. By carrying these lessons forward, we continue building momentum for meaningful growth in the year ahead—because one word truly can make a difference when it is lived every day.
