Every great meal starts with someone who cares.
Behind every breakfast served, every decorated brunch buffet, and every favorite recipe prepared is a team of dedicated culinary professionals who choose to make a difference every single day. While many cooks, servers, and dishwashers could work in traditional restaurants, they have chosen a different path—one where the people they serve become neighbors, friends, and even family.
In this Staff Spotlight, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who make our dining programs special. Their stories remind us that senior living is about much more than preparing and serving meals—it’s about creating comfort, building relationships, celebrating life’s moments, and making every resident feel at home.
We asked members of our culinary teams to share why they chose senior living and what makes this work so meaningful. Here are their stories.

Cooking With Heart
As Culinary Director at The Gardens at Arkanshire, I have been cooking for residents for more than 15 years. What keeps me inspired is simple. I love seeing their happy faces when they enjoy a good meal.
Senior living culinary gives each meal a deeper purpose. It is not only about preparing food. It is about caring for residents, listening to them, and helping them feel at home.
Residents have taught me to never give up and keep working hard. Their strength and encouragement are daily reminders to keep doing my best. Those lessons carry into the kitchen and beyond.
One favorite tradition is brunch. It gives the culinary team a chance to be creative and try new ideas with food. Brunch also brings residents together for something fun, familiar, and special.
Listening to Residents
Success in culinary in senior living starts with having heart. Team members need to care about the residents they serve. They also need to listen closely to what residents have to say.
Listening helps the culinary team understand what residents enjoy. It also shows residents that their voices matter. That care can turn a meal into a moment of comfort.
One meaningful reminder comes when residents share their happiness. Hearing them say they are glad to live in a place that serves good food means a lot. It shows that the work makes a difference.
Those comments are simple, but they stay with you. They remind us that good food can help a community feel like home. Every meal is a chance to serve with care.
Every member of our culinary team has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common—a passion for serving others.
Whether they’re preparing a resident’s favorite comfort food, celebrating a birthday, or simply greeting someone with a smile, their work goes far beyond the kitchen. They create moments of joy, foster meaningful relationships, and help make our communities feel like home.
To every cook, server, dishwasher, and culinary leader who chooses senior living over a traditional restaurant, thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to hospitality make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents every single day.
Together, we’re not just serving meals—we’re serving memories.
The Gardens at Arkanshire Senior Living serves and employs individuals of all faiths, regardless of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age or handicap, except as limited by state and federal law.
