As Culinary Director at The Gardens at Arkanshire Senior Living, I approach each day with passion—not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and find fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it centers on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it counts.
I began my career as a Dishwasher. During those early days, I had the chance to connect one-on-one with residents. Many shared frustrations about the food and how their concerns often went unheard. One resident’s comment stuck with me: they missed the taste of meals like their mom or dad used to make. That hit home. I was already determined to grow in my career, but those conversations gave my journey purpose. I wanted to be the person who helped bring that comfort back to their plates. Through persistence and heart, I worked my way up to become a Culinary Director.
The experience that shaped me most came from one of the first Executive Directors I worked with. He led by example—always working hard, showing compassion, and making sure his team felt valued. His consistent, respectful leadership helped mold my own approach in the kitchen and in daily interactions with staff and residents.
What I love most about working in senior living is the joy that comes from spending time with both residents and team members. I enjoy learning residents’ favorite meals, listening to their stories, and working alongside a team that cares deeply. Together, we create an environment where food brings people together and every day feels like home.
Each morning starts with warm greetings for residents and staff. I make a point to check in with everyone, setting a positive tone and making sure we all feel connected from the beginning of the day.
For anyone thinking about a culinary career in senior living, my advice is simple: lead with heart. You have to care—about the people, the process, and the outcome. Challenges will arise, but when you give your best, the reward shows in the smiles around you.
Success, for me, means residents and team members feel satisfied and proud to call Arkanshire home.
At the end of the day, I take the greatest pride in contributing something meaningful—whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt conversation, or a comforting moment. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
